Biography

NICKI VARDON 

Hard-core scientist, soft-hearted metalhead, seasoned night owl, part-time catsitter, and full-time skeleton wrangler. Dutch by birth, British by tea addiction. 

 

Throughout her life she's lived in three different countries, changed her hair colour numerous times, bathed an owl, suffered malaria for cash, nursed and raised three nests of wild rabbits, had all her wisdom surgically removed, inhaled many poisonous gases even though she doesn't smoke, done a New Year's dive, and completed NaNoWriMo five times.

ABOUT MY WRITING

After annoying my teachers with rewritten fairy tales in whatever empty space my workbooks had left, dabbling in fanfiction-land for an epic one-off in the most obscure fandom known to man, and several years of NaNoWriMo, I am now slowly getting out in the published world with my stories.

Mostly I write stories with a speculative bent. I especially enjoy settings based on historical eras with a twist. For short fiction I love quirky pieces with unusual voices and unique concepts. With novels I try to be a touch more conventional.

Writing is a hobby to me. A hobby that got horribly out of hand. In a good way.

Science is in my blood; it won't ever drain from me. I have several papers published in academic journals and a co-written book coming out in 2012.

Because I have academic work published under my real name, I write fiction under my pen name Nicki Vardon.
